The Apoe4 gene:

What does it mean...I have the APOE4 gene?

Ok, this is basically what it is, what a doctor would tell you.

The Apoe4 gene is one of three variants of the apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene, which plays an important role in the transport of fats and cholesterol in the body.

This specific variant is often associated with an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and cardiovascular disease. However, having one or two copies of the Apoe4 gene does not automatically mean that someone will develop these conditions.

Everyone has 2 copies of the APOE gene, you have different types of APOE (different types, like APOE2) genes but what you don't want is one copy of a APOE4 gene and certainly not two...like I have.

The likelihood of developing Alzheimer's raises to 15x !

To make things a bit more positive only 25% of all patients suffering from this desease have 2 copies of this gene.

Alzheimer's is a also caused by lifestyle...and this, my friends, is under our control.

Anyways, it is obvious I want to give myself the best chance possible not to get this horrible disease therefore I will get into this matter and dedicate time and energy on figuring out how to deal with having these 2 copies.

On this website I will post ALL relative information I can find, not only for other people that are in the same situation as I am but for me, to keep everything in one place.

Needles to say, the first time I told my doctor about the results of my DNA test, he wasn't really sure where I was talking about and it looks like neurologists also aren't really aware of what this exactly is and what to do next.

A lot of research is being done on Alzheimer's and some promising studies are showing us the direction we have to go.

Please follow me here,I will regularly post my latest discoveries, findings and studies.
